Which financial impact will a new EU-regulation have on an airline and an airport and how to derive countermeasures?
Challenge
In course of the implementation of new border regulations at the Schengen border, waiting and processing times at the border were expected to increase at a large European hub airport.
In consequence, its main home base carrier had to evaluate the impact of prolonged times at the Schengen border on the passenger misconnection rate within the hub.
Approach
Conves has been supporting the impact analysis from August to November 2024:
- Analysis of total airline passengers at the hub impacted by the new regulation
- Modelling of current and future waiting and processing times at the border
- Evaluation of sensitivity of various assumptions/variables through scenario analysis
- Review of connection times from a planning and operational perspective
- Estimation of financial impact posed by the new border regulation
